(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, JUNE 21 - The European Parliament will launch on Tuesday a website to present applications for the Daphne Caruana Galizia journalism prize at the Press Club Brussels Europe. The session will be attended by Matthew Caruana Galizia, one of the sons of Daphne Caruana, David Casa, a member of the European Parliament and quaestor, and Heidi Hautala, vice-president and lawmaker of the European Parliament.
The Prize, set up with the support of the European Parliament, is an homage to the Maltese investigative journalist and blogger murdered in October 2017. It will be awarded each year to the best journalistic work promoting or defending the fundamental principles and values of the European Union like human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, law and order and human rights.
The prize is open to professional journalists of any nationality who will be able to present in-depth reports published or broadcast by media outlets based in one of the 27 member states of the European Union.
The winner will be selected by an independent jury composed of representatives of the press and civil society of 27 countries of the European Union, as well as representatives of the main European journalism associations.
Prizes for 20,000 euros intend to show the strong support of the European Parliament for investigative journalism and the safeguard of journalists around the world. The event will be held on Tuesday, June 22, at 2 PM at the press club Brussels Europe, rue Froissart 95 - 1040 Brussels, and on Zoom.
