(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 16 - League leader Matteo Salvini told an ANSA Forum on Wednesday that he was not in favour of further extending Italy's COVID-19 state of emergency.
"We have 95% vaccination coverage for the over-80s," Salvini said.
    "The fragile are protected.
"There are three million Italians over 60 who are not covered.
I'm in favour of freedom of choice (for them).
"I haven't spoken to (Premier Mario) Draghi about it, but in my opinion the necessary conditions to drag on the state of emergency are not there.
"I think it would be a good message (to end it), as if to say the worst is over". In January 2020 the government headed by ex-premier Giuseppe Conte declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus.
It has been extended four times.
The state of emergency is currently set to run until the end of July. (ANSA).
