(ANSA) - Rome, May 25 - An agreement was reached within the
government at a overnight meeting on a big recruitment campaign
for the education sector, a move aimed at giving job security to
many thousands of teachers currently working with 'precarious
contracts'.
The government was reportedly considering using a
multiple-choice test in August to select the teachers, but this
option came under heavy fire.
Instead the selection procedure will take place after the
summer and will feature a written test.
"We want to reduce precarious employment and give more
stability to schools, via a recruitment mechanism that
guarantees merit is rewarded," said Education Minister Lucia
Azzolina, expressing satisfaction at the agreement.
"We have 78,000 teachers to hire".
