(ANSA) - Rome, Ovctober 23 - A bill to change the Italian
constitution and cut the Senate voting age from 25 to 18 was
filed at the Senate Constitutional Affairs committee Wednesday
after being approved by the House earlier this year.
The bipartisan bill would give the right to vote in Senators
to 4.13 million Italian under-25s, sources said.
The bill would lower the Senate voting age to the same as
that for the House.
Since it is a constitutional reform, the bill must be passed
in the same form twice in each chamber of parliament.
It must muster a two-thirds majority, or else be subject to a
referendum.
The bill was filed by the ruling anti-establishment 5-Star
Movement (M5S).
Another three Constitutional reforms were also filed in the
package.
