Influence Salvini on our issues - Grillo

A bit of patience needed with Di Maio says M5S founder

(ANSA) - Rome, February 20 - The anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) must "influence" government partner and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini on the issues that have traditionally been dear to its heart, M5S founder Beppe Grillo said Wednesday.
Grillo, a stand-up comic who started the M5S 10 years ago, cited "the environment, ecology, mobility and how this latter will evolve over the next 10 years".
Grillo said these and other key issues had been "neglected", leading to some disaffection among supporters as signalled by recent electoral losses.
Grillo urged supporters to have a "bit of patience" with M5S political leader Luigi Di Maio, the deputy premier and labour and industry minister.
He pointed out that "he's only 32 and has major ministries." The M5S is the senior partner in Italy's populist government, along with Salvini's anti-migrant and Euroskeptic League party.
The League has almost doubled its support in opinion polls from the 17% it got in the March 4 general election while the M5S has dropped by around 10 percentage points from the 33% it gained last march.
