I'm innocent says Renzi's father

Ex-premier's parents to be questioned on Monday

(ANSA) - Rome, February 20 - Matteo Renzi's father said Wednesday that he was innocent after he and the former premier's mother were put under house arrest this week in relation to accusations of fraudulent bankruptcy and issuing fake invoices. Tiziano Renzi and Laura Bovoli, the parents of the Democratic Party (PD) Senator, are set to be questioned by a preliminary investigations judge on Monday, according to a report by La Nazione. "I will face the trial in the courtroom as a citizen who has been pre-emptively massacred in the media, but also as a citizen with no criminal record who asserts his innocence," Tiziano Renzi said via Facebook. "I have never issued false invoices... I have not gone bankrupt, we don't have workers off the books.
"The newspapers are full of reconstructions of the accusations.
"I say here (and unfortunately at the moment I can only do so here) that these reconstructions are FALSE". Renzi's parents, meanwhile, have been granted a request to move from their own home near Florence to the residence of one of their daughters for "family reasons".
