Pecorelli sister wants case reopened

(ANSA) - Perugia, January 16 - The sister of Carmine 'Mino' Pecorelli, a muckraking journalist murdered in Rome on March 20, 1979, wants the case to be reopened, sources said Wednesday.
    An appeal to reopen the case will be filed in Rome Thursday by Rosita Pecorelli's lawyer, sources said.
    The appeal is based on a past statement from former far-right extremist militant Vincenzo Vinciguerra, they said.
    The lawyer said fresh elements had emerged thanks to that statement.
    "I'm seeking the truth and I won't give in until I've discovered it," Rosita Pecorelli said Wednesday.
    Lawyer Valter Biscotti said "in my opinion there are elements such as to enable further investigations.
    "It is action that is due to (Mino) Pecorelli, to keep seeking the truth".
    Late statesman Giulio Andreotti was given 24 years in jail for allegedly ordering the murder before being acquitted on appeal.
    The Christian Democrat giant had been accused of wanting the journalist dead because Pecorelli was allegedly about to publish damaging revelations about him.
    Andreotti, who died in 2013 aged 84, was convicted of helping the Sicilian Mafia until 1980 but the conviction timed out.
