Mattarella promulgates security decree

President office's website announces legislation has been signed

(ANSA) - Rome, December 3 - President Sergio Mattarella has promulgated the government's security-and-migration decree, the website of the head of State's office said on Monday. Among other things, the legislation, drafted by Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, makes it easier for the authorities to deport asylum seekers found guilty of felonies.
The package, which won final approval in parliament last week, has come under fire from several quarters.
Partisans' association ANPI said it took Italy into the "nightmare of judicial apartheid".
League party leader Salvini dismissed the criticism, saying the law brings back "order and respect".
