Govt will last five years says Di Maio

Tension between M5S, League eases after deal on 'fiscal peace'

(ANSA) - Rome, October 22 - Deputy Premier and Labour and Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio said the government will last the whole of the parliamentary term after a row between his 5-Star Movement (M5S) and its coalition partner, the League, over the plan for a 'fiscal peace' was resolved at the weekend.
"We'll go on for five years to implement the contract of government," Di Maio told RTL 102.5 radio. "Those who are banking on the collapse of the government will have a nasty surprise". The government was rocked last week when Di Maio said a decree linked to budget had been manipulated without the M5S's consent to broaden the scope of the fiscal peace to help people terminate disputes with the tax authorities.
On Saturday, Di Maio, Premier Giuseppe Conte and League leader Matteo Salvini, who is also deputy premier and interior minister, reached a deal on the decree that saw an amnesty for capital returning from overseas scrapped. Di Maio said relations with Conte and Salvini were excellent.
"Every time the three of us see each other and talk, we find a solution," he said.
