Some are cheering for spread - Di Maio

Won't betray Italians by making U-turn says deputy premier

(ANSA) - Rome, October 10 - Deputy Premier and Labour and Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio said Wednesday that some people in Italy want the country's bond spread to come under increasing pressure. He also said turmoil on the financial markets would not cause the government to change policy. "This story about the (10-year) bond spread (going up) to 400 points is just a way to terrorize the citizens," 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader Di Maio told RAI radio. "There are too many people in the establishment who are cheering for a spread of 400 points, but the markets love Italy more than some Italian and European politicians.
"The spread was 270-280, now it's 300, because there is great prejudice about this government. "My aim is to make my fellow citizens happy and this is valid beyond the numbers.
"This budget is the act of courage Italy had been waiting for for years.
"It's not possible to turn back. If your turn back, you betray the Italian people".
