Deputy premier threatened to close airports at weekend

(ANSA) - Rome, October 8 - Interior Minister and Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini said Monday that there was no problem with Germany over the issue of flights returning migrants to Italy. Berlin said no such flights were planned after Salvini said Sunday that "we will close our airports like we closed our ports", referring to his policy of refusing to allow NGO-run migrant rescue ships to dock in Italy. "I address problems that exist," Salvini said. "If Germany say these flights don't exist, the problem does not exist either". Berlin said Monday that reports of planned flights from Bavaria to take back migrants who arrived in Germany after initially being registered in Italy were "not correct".
