(ANSA) - Rome, October 8 - European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc on Monday said Europe wants to help Genoa after the collapse of the Morandi bridge in August during a visit to the port city with Italian transport Minister Danilo Toninelli.
"I am here to honor the memory of the victims, for a tribute to the families who have suffered for this great tragedy and to offer Europe's help", Bulc said.
Toninelli, a member of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) said, "this is the Europe we like", that "listens to the needs of the territory".
The minister also said he was happy that "Bulc has approved the agency for the security of infrastructures promoted by this government".
Genoa's mayor and newly appointed reconstruction commissioner, Marco Bucci, said last week that Genoa will have a new road bridge replacing the one that collapsed killing 43 on August 14 in a year to 16 months.
