(ANSA) - Rome, October 1 - Premier Giuseppe Conte's spokesman
Rocco Casalino apologised Monday for telling journalists on an
August 16 recording that has just emerged that he didn't them to
"stress him out" over the August 14 Genoa bridge collapse that
killed 43, and he was entitled to a Ferragosto mid-August break.
Amid calls for him to be sacked following a previous gaffe
about purging the economy ministry of officials allegedly
hampering budget moves, Casalino said: "I feel I must say sorry
for the effect produced by a private audio tape that ended up in
the newspapers."
He said "in my words there was never the intention of
offending the Genoa victims.
"What is offensive, on the other hand, is the instrumental
use that some papers are making out of this tragedy".
