(ANSA) - Rome, January 25 - Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano on Wednesday published a message in memory of the Italian researcher Giulio Regeni, who disappeared one year ago today in the Egyptian capital.
The case of his kidnapping, torture and murder has not yet been solved.
The message on the foreign ministry website said that "one year after his disappearance, which occurred in Cairo on the day on which Egypt was remembering its revolution, the tragic death of Giulio Regeni is still an open wound not only for his family, who remain in our thoughts, but for our entire country". A large photo has been uploaded onto the opening page of the ministry website for the day. Alfano added that the search for truth "is not a private affair. It is, instead, a collective requirement that Italy, from the very first day, has strongly demanded and will not cease to seek." He said that the Italian foreign ministry will remain by the side of the Regeni family, "whose strength and determination are an extraordinary example of love for life, which they handed down to their son Giulio." The minister underscored that his death "deprives all of us of a generous heart that could have done a great deal for others".
