(ANSA) - Brussels, December 9 - European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said Friday that "those who have tried to tear the EU into pieces are wrong, because we won't exist as individual nations". Speaking on the 25th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty, Juncker said "we must invent a different orbit for all those different partners" like Britain and Turkey who "don't feel at ease". He said "this is not a crisis or a tragedy, but an opportunity" and "We must move in this direction, of a more structured cooperation". Juncker recalled signing the treaty, saying "what I remember more than anything is the sensation around the table that we were opening a new chapter in history". He said "I felt that it was going to be the most important signature I would ever sign" because "we really had the impression we were making history, not victims but actors". he said "I am the sole survivor, of those back then there remain just me and the euro".
