(ANSA) - New York, December 5 - United Nations
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed "warm thanks" to
outgoing Italian Premier Matteo Renzi for his "close
collaboration with and his support for the United Nations", a UN
spokesperson told ANSA on Monday.
"I am certain Italy will continue playing a key role in
reaching UN objectives," the spokesperson said.
Ban Ki-moon is also an outgoing leader. Ban's second
five-year mandate expires at the end of the year and is to be
replaced by Antonio Guterres, a former prime minister of
Portugal and former leader of the Socialist International who
served as UN High Commissioner for Refugees from 2005 to 2015.
