Pays homage to leadership in Med crises

(ANSAmed) - Rome, December 1 - British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on Thursday said "I pay homage to Italian leadership" in tackling crises in the Mediterranean, speaking at the Med 2016 conference in Rome.
Johnson recalled Italy's work in "training coast guards and (setting up) the military hospital in Libya and the contribution of Italian soldiers in Iraq, who are second to the USA in terms of their presence".
On Libya, in particular, which is "the source of so many migrants", he said "the international community's commitment must continue speedily, but it's up to the Libyans to build their legitimate government to address all this".
Johnson assured his listeners that Britain too "understands perfectly that the frontier of security is in the Mediterranean, and our commitment is determined and will also be so in future".
