Judges pension bill clears Senate (2)

Now becomes law

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, October 19 - A government bill on judges' pensions cleared a Senate confidence vote Wednesday with 159 in favor, 24 against and one abstaining. The measure improving the efficiency of Italian courts now becomes law since it was approved by the House on October 6. The measure delays retirement for top judges at the Audit Court, the Council of State, which deals with administrative justice, and the supreme Court of Cassation. Silvio Berlusconi's center-right Forza Italia (FI) party and the populist euroskeptic 5-Star Movement (M5S) did not take part in the vote.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Senate rejected four objections regarding whether the bill respects the Constitution.
