3-year term requested for Marino (2)

Case concerns alleged misuse of city credit card

(ANSA) - Rome, September 29 - Prosecutors on Thursday requested that former Rome mayor Ignazio Marino be handed a jail term of three years, one month and 10 days for alleged fraudulent use of his city credit card while he was first citizen. Marino is accused of misappropriation, fraud and giving false statements in a case also concerning consultancy payments made to his Imagine NGO. Elected mayor in 2013, Marino was ousted last year by his centre-left Democratic Party (PD), which is led by Premier Matteo Renzi, over an expenses scandal, the last in a string of embarrassments that dogged his administration.
The city of Rome has made a petition for damages of 600,000 euros from Marino. It wants 500,000 euros for damages to the city's image and another 100,000 for the actual loss incurred.
