Pension measures 'don't depend on EU' (2)

Premier refers to early retirement, bonus for low earners

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, September 28 - Premier Matteo Renzi said Wednesday that his government's plans for new pension measures do not depend on the outcome of negotiations with the European Commission about Italy's budget deficit. The government is aiming to introduce a mechanism to make it easier for people close to retirement age to start drawing their pension early and Renzi has said it wants double to so-called 14th payment bonus low-earning pensioners receive. "The measures will be there. The don't depend on the negotiations with Brussels," he told RTL radio. "They won't create multi-millionaires. The logic is to make small steps - people will be able to retire early if they accept a small penalty in their monthly payment. We'll give a little money more to those on minimum pensions".
