Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - London, August 25 - Britain stands by Italy in its hour of need after yesterday's devastating earthquake, UK Foreign Minister Boris Johnson said Thursday.
Johnson spoke by phone with his Italian counterpart Paolo Gentiloni to offer condolences and assistance.
He said "a number of British nationals have been affected" and British Embassy staff are providing support.
Queen Elizabeth had already offered her "thoughts and prayers" to those affected by the earthquake.
Prime Minister Theresa May is on holiday in Switzerland and has been criticised on social media for not immediately joining with other world leaders in sending condolences.
