Include Russia as ally against terror

Monitor Turkey-Syria border say MPs in resolution

(ANSA) - Rome, June 27 - MPs from the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) on Monday called on government to exert pressure at the EU for Russia to be included in anti-terror intelligence sharing and cooperation and for international sanctions against it to be lifted.
"As long as the (Premier Matteo) Renzi administration...refuses to fight for the recognition of Russia's strategic role in the battle against terrorism at a European level, it won't be possible to effectively defend the safety of citizens," the opposition MPs wrote in a resolution ahead of a June 28-29 European Council meeting. "(We) also ask that Italy oppose liberalization of visas for citizens of Georgia, Kosovo, Ukraine and Turkey - as the European Commission recently proposed - until full resolution of issues linked to human rights, the rule of law...and border control".
The anti-establishment caucus in the Lower House called for an EU mission to monitor the Turkey-Syria border in order to "prevent Turkey from becoming a terrorist short cut" towards Europe.
