(ANSA) - Rome, June 24 - Premier Matteo Renzi's Democratic
Party (PD) postponed a crunch national directorate meeting on
Friday following the Brexit decision by UK voters to leave the
European Union.
"The national PD directorate meeting, scheduled for today
June 24, is postponed to next week due to the results of the
English referendum. New directions for the reconvening of the
directorate will follow shortly," said a PD statement.
The meeting was expected to be a showdown between Renzi
and opponents to many of his policies and his leadership style
within the party after the PD performed badly in last weekend's
mayor run-offs in many cities, suffering painful losses in Rome
and Turin.
