Renzi wants 'voiceless to have a seat'

Threat comes from within not refugees says premier

(ANSA) - Rome, May 25 - Premier Matteo Renzi wrote in his e-newsletter Wednesday that he wants the downtrodden to have a place at the table of the world's powers. "I would like the voiceless to have a place at the table of the powers-that-be," Renzi wrote. "I would like a place at that table for the eyes of the (refugee) children of Idomeni...In the face of demagoguery and verbal violence against refugees I would like us to recall - as we pointed out yesterday to the NATO secretary-general - that the threat to our cities often comes from the urban outskirts where extremism and radicalism flourish - not from the migrants at Idomeni or Lampedusa". Renzi also wrote he is "very happy about the renewed interest in Italy's proposals" such as an EU migration compact to aid sub-Saharan countries so people won't be forced to leave their homelands to survive.
