EC adopts single digital market measures

For TV, streaming movies, and e-commerce

(ANSA) - Brussels, May 25 - The European Commission on Wednesday adopted a packet of measures aimed at creating a single European digital media market. They include advertising limits, the obligation to promote European films, more protections for underage viewers and e-consumers, and the scrapping of residency and credit card requirements for online shopping. The measures affect traditional TV networks, TV on demand, YouTube, and Netflix. Music, eBooks, games and software are left out for the time being, so digital consumers won't be able to purchase songs, apps, or eBooks from online stores in other countries.
As well, the Commission proposed ad hoc, country-by-country measures for platforms such as Facebook and eBay.
