(ANSA) - Rome, May 24 - The parliamentary whips of the
anti-immigrant, anti-euro Northern League party said Tuesday
they would sue former Italian president Giorgio Napolitano for
calling them "xenophobic". Marco Centinaio and Massimiliano
Fedriga said "Napolitano told a youth audience that we are
xenophobes. Xenophobia means fear of the other, we aren't afraid
of anyone at all, we only want to defend our people, that's why
we reject this abomination. We have instructed our lawyers to
weigh how to proceed against the ex-president. We'll give the
money we get to charity, to groups that help needy old people".
The League often takes stances that are seen as being against
immigrants.
