(ANSA) - Florence, May 6 - Investing in Africa in a bid to help prospective migrants find livelihoods in their home countries is not only ethical but also useful, Premier Matteo Renzi said in a speech to the State of the European Union conference on Friday. "If we say we need to help them in their home countries, we cannot cut international development budgets," he said. "We need to take a risk and bet on Africa, not only because it's ethical but also because it is useful". He went on to warn against using anti-immigrant rhetoric. "Be careful in giving a message in which words that weigh as much as stones are being used haphazardly," he said. "There is no invasion going on if 38,000 people arrive in just over four months".
