Minister points out disaster a year after 800 died off Libya

(see related) (ANSAmed) - Luxembourg, April 18 - Reports that a group of around 400 people, mostly Somalis, have gone missing in the southern Mediterranean showed the need to discuss Italy's proposal for a new migration compact for the European Union, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said Monday. "It's an extra reason to discuss the migration compact prepared by Italy," Gentiloni said. The minister pointed out that the disaster comes a year after a wreck off the Libya coast in which around 800 people died. "The symbolic fact that it has happened a year after, even if in a completely different area, must touch our conscience and make us think".
