Says Potenza prosecutor Luigi Gay

(ANSA) - Potenza, April 6 - No possible charge of "environmental disaster" has so far been mooted in a southern Italian oil probe that has rocked the government, Potenza prosecutor Luigi Gay said Wednesday in connection with alleged pollution from ENI's Centro Oli waste treatment plant at Viggiano. The probe is one of three centring on long-delayed oil production in the Basilicata region. In another of the probes, despite not being placed under investigation, industry minister Federica Guidi resigned Thursday over an amendment that favoured her oil-business boyfriend Gianluca Gemelli. Guidi will be questioned in Potenza Thursday. Premier Matteo Renzi is now acting as industry minister in an interim capacity. Police are probing the incidence of tumours around the Basilicata plants of ENI and Total.
