Giachetti wins Rome primary with 64.1%

(see related)(ANSA) - Rome, March 7 - Deputy Lower House Speaker Roberto Giachetti of the Democratic Party (PD) won Sunday's centre-left primaries to choose a mayoral candidate for Rome with 27.968 votes, or 64.1% of the total, according to final results released on Monday evening.
    Giachetti's main competitor, former executive city councillor for urban planning Roberto Morassut, also of the PD, took 12,281 votes, or 28.2%. Domenico Rossi polled 1,320 votes (3%), Chiara Ferraro 915 votes (2.1%), Stefano Pedica 594 votes (1.4%) and Gianfranco Mascia 529 votes (1.2%).
    In total 47,317 people turned out to vote in the primaries, with 43,607 valid votes cast. There were 2,866 blank ballots, 843 spoilt ballots and one contested ballot cast.
