(see related)(ANSA) - London, February 29 - Lower House Speaker Laura Boldrini on Monday slammed rightwing attacks on the birth of a child to a gay politician and his partner thanks to a surrogate mother. Former Puglia governor Nichi Vendola from the Left Ecology and Freedom (SEL) party and his partner Ed Testa announced they have become dads to a little boy at the weekend. Rightwing Northern League leader Matteo Salvini called this "disgusting egotism" while Maurizio Gasparri from Silvio Berlusconi's center-right Forza Italia berated the "the left's use of the vile (surrogate motherhood) method". Boldrini, who is also from SEL, stepped into the fray on Monday. "I heard coarse, vulgar comments - it's sordid to stoop so low," Boldrini said.
"I wish (Vendola and Testa) all the best and I hope this attack on their choice will stop. Nobody can express such harsh opinions against a child that has been born".
