Italy has 'duty' to help France vs Isis

Foreign minister says ready to discuss requests with Paris

(updates previous). (ANSA) - Berlin, November 24 - Italy recognises its duty to collaborate with France against Islamic State militants and will be open to discuss requests for support from Paris, though participation in air strikes is not an option, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said on Tuesday.
Gentiloni said that Italy felt "the duty to collaborate with our French brothers" against organisations planning terror attacks. He said it was Italy's view that in Syria "the only way to emerge from the humanitarian tragedy remains a political solution".
He added "we respect those who are involved in air strikes, but Italy will not make choices of this kind". Italy is taking part in air missions in Iraq - though not actual strikes.
