Amendments 'cut car insurance cost'

Italy's insurance premiums among most expensive in Europe

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, July 31 - Two amendments proposed by the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) to a draft legislative bill on competition law are expected to reduce the high cost of car insurance in Italy, party officials said Friday.
The amendments, passed with support of government parties, oblige insurance companies to give discounted prices to anyone buying insurance for more than one vehicle or anyone who takes out a policy for named drivers only.
"This is a concrete contribution to reducing the tariffs of car insurance, given that Italy is still at the head of the EU standings for expensive premiums and motorists pay 177 euros more a year than the Germans, French and Spanish," the opposition M5S said in a statement.
