Rome council debates budget amid shuffle

Luigina Di Liegro to be named as councillor in charge of tourism

(ANSA) - Rome, July 28 - Rome city council debated budget adjustments Tuesday as final details of Mayor Ignazio Marino's reshuffle of councillors emerged.
Reports said Luigina Di Liegro, a member of Marino's Democratic Party (PD) and former regional councillor in charge of welfare and security, had been named as the new councillor in charge of tourism. She is also the niece of Rome Caritas founder Don Luigi Di Liegro.
Her name would take to four the list of new appointments, after Marco Causi was named deputy mayor, Stefano Esposito city councillor in charge of transportation, and Marco Rossi Doria city councillor in charge of schools. Meanwhile, city council must approve the budget adjustment by Friday to meet mandated deadlines. Marino took over as budget councillor following the resignation of Silvia Scozzese on Saturday over complaints about how the city was run. The mayor has lost eight members of his original cabinet since taking office more than two years ago.
Some councillors resigned due to alleged implication in the ongoing Mafia Capitale probe into alleged infiltration by a local crime syndicate into city contracts.
