Transport authority 'open to Uber'

As long as service 'regulated'

(ANSA) - Rome, June 4 - Italy's Transport Authority told parliament Thursday it is open to non-traditional transport networks, such as Uber car-hailing app.
However the service must be regulated to ensure service quality and safety, the authority said.
San Francisco-based Uber connects passengers with drivers who use their own cars to provide taxi-like service. It has come under fire from taxi drivers and licensed car services in many Italian and foreign cities, who argue it violates existing laws and undermines legitimate car services.
