Poletti says 'everything' to be done to avoid Whirlpool plant closure

Talks continue on future of Caserta Whirlpool plant

(ANSA) - Rome, April 28 - Italy's Labor Minister said Tuesday that he will "try everything to avoid the closure" of a southern Italian plant.
    "We will try in every way to avert the closure", of Caserta's Whirlpool plant, Labor Minister Giuliano Poletti said.
    Trade unions have been in talks in recent weeks with the home-appliance multinational based in the United States over job cuts.
    Earlier in the month, unions staged blockades at warehouses and highways in the Naples area to protest the cuts and ask for government intervention.
    Talks on the factory at Carinaro near Naples were to continue Wednesday and next week, the industry ministry said after a meeting in Rome on Monday brokered by Industry Minister Federica Guidi.
