To be included in Milan Charter and the Constitution

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, April 23 - The Lower House on Thursday approved a motion for the government to consider food as a fundamental right in view of the Milan Charter to be drafted at the Expo world's fair, which kicks off May 1. The executive must also consider "including the right to food in the Constitution" and make sure "States take responsibility under the Milan Charter to guarantee the right to healthy, safe and sufficient food for all", according to the motion.
As well, the government must take measures to prevent food waste, fight land grabbing, and promote made-in-Italy and DOP products.
The DOP denomination indicates products made exclusively in very limited and strictly defined geographical areas.
