Ex-premier 'not quitting the Democratic Party'

(ANSA) - Rome, April 20 - Ex-premier Enrico Letta told a TV talk show at the weekend he is quitting as Lower House MP for the ruling Democratic Party (PD).
"I am resigning from this parliament," he said, adding he is waiving his parliamentary pension and moving to Paris to work at the Sciences Po school of international relations. The ex-premier added he is not quitting the PD - of which he is a co-founder - and he hopes the party won't split.
"That would be an error on everyone's part," he said.
Letta also said he thinks the next general election will be in 2018.
His seat goes to 37-year-old computer scientist and mother-of-two Beatrice Brignone, from the Marche seaside resort of Senigallia.
