Prosecutor says human trafficking feeds terrorism

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, February 24 - Italian authorities in the past failed to fight with enough force against corruption, including tax evasion, said National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor Franco Roberti.
"Corruption, including tax evasion, has never been fought effectively, it was tacitly accepted and was not considered a serious crime," said Roberti in the anti-mafia commission's annual report.
"This helped the mafia, he added. Meanwhile, Roberti added that human trafficking, including illegal migration, may be feeding international terrorism.
"The illegal migration phenomena (contributes) to international terrorism," he said.
"There is a real and tangible risk".
Roberti said that new guidelines were being developed to counter the risk.
