(ANSA) - Rome, December 17 - The employers' federation Confindustria will seek civil damages in the trial of scores of officials, politicians and mobsters implicated in the Roma Capitale corruption scandal rocking Italy, a top official said Wednesday.
Antonello Montante, Confindustria delegate for legal affairs, made the announcement at a seminar organised by the association's Csc research centre on the struggle against graft.
Corruption is a "real break on economic and civil progress," said Montante.
As much as 300 billion euros in economic growth could have been realized over the past 20 years in Italy if recommendations that came out of a corruption probe during the 1990s had been applied, he said.
The decision to seek civil damages in the Roma Capitale probe was taken to underline "the commitment of Confindustria for the respect of values that are crucial to legality and correctness in economic relations," said Montante.
