Dec. 12 strike must not affect transport

'Too many strikes in close proximity violate 10-day rule'

(ANSA) - Rome, November 24 - A December 12 general strike called by CGIL, UIL and UGL union federations must not affect national air and rail traffic or local public transport, the national strike authority said Monday. The move means any sector unions that strike anyway will be in breach of the law. The authority said a railway strike on that day would contravene rules that say 10 days must go by between transportation strikes in each sector, since labor actions had already been called for December 13 and 14.
The same goes for air transport, where workers at Rome's Fiumicino airport had organized action on December 15.
For the same reason - that is, due to previously announced strikes in December that would fall too close to the December 12 date - public transport unions in the regions of Lazio and Sicily as well as the cities of Crotone, Florence, Potenza and Trento must also abstain from striking on December 12, the authority said.
