(ANSA) - Rome, November 19 - Economy Minister Pier Carlo
Padoan said Wednesday he hoped historic public railway company
Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) will soon be privatized.
Speaking at a joint economy and transport ministry meeting,
Padoan said "this is an important opportunity to value a company
that has shown itself to be a driver of modernization in Italy".
Founded in 1905, FS is the government-owned holding company
that manages infrastructure and services on the Italian rail
network.
One of its subsidiaries, Trenitalia, is the main rail
operator in Italy.
FS employs roughly 70,000 people and in 2012 posted
operating revenue of 8.3 billion euros, up 0.4% over the
previous year.
