Unblock Italy put to confidence vote

Reform Minister Boschi makes announcement

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, October 23 - Premier Matteo Renzi's government will put its Unblock Italy decree to a confidence vote in the Lower House, Reforms and Relations with Parliament Minister Maria Elena Boschi announced Thursday. The decree aims to free up billions of euros in funding for infrastructure projects, including new highways, railways, and major airport renovations, and help the recession-battered economy. Using a confidence vote limits debate and imposes discipline on lawmakers belonging to parties supporting Premier Matteo Renzi's government to speed up approval of the measure.
But it carries a risk as the government will collapse if it loses the vote.
