Pension pay day to be changed gradually

Statement issued after outraged reaction by pensioners' unions

(ANSA) - Rome, October 21 - The state pension agency INPS said Tuesday it will change the pay day for millions of pensioners "gradually" so as not to upset senior citizens, INPS sources said.
A new budget measure to move the pay day from the first of the month to the 10th led to anger from pensioners' unions, which accused the government of cruelly complicating older people's lives.
In the face of the outraged reaction, INPS sources said the change, part of the government's Stability Law, would be made "gradually" though they did not elaborate.
The sources said that the government could save as much as six million euros a year by changing the INPS pay day to coincide with that of Inpdap, another state fund, since some 800,000 people receive payments from both funds.
