(ANSA) - Brussels, October 1 - The European Commission on
Wednesday said it will observe Italy's budget law for 2015 to
see how it fits in with Rome's financial commitments to the EU.
The spokesman for European Economic and Monetary Affairs
Commissioner Jyrki Katainen commented after the Italian
government on Tuesday revised the forecasts in its economic
blueprint and said it will not balance the budget in structural
terms until 2017.
In the previous version of the blueprint, the Economic and
Financial Document (DEF), in April the government had said the
State budget would be balanced by 2016.
"We will assess the plan for the budget law in the light
in the commitments made," said the spokesperson.
"Our position is that the commitments should be
respected".
