CGIL leader berates Confindustria chief

After Squinzi voices support for Article 18 reform

(ANSA) - Florence, September 22 - CGIL labor federation chief Susanna Camusso took a shot Monday at Confindustria employers association leader Giorgio Squinzi after he commented that reforming Article 18 of the 1970s Workers Statute, which protects employees from unfair dismissal, would "send a strong signal".
"I see sudden changes of opinion, because I recall many statements by (Squinzi) saying exactly the opposite," Camusso said. "We must get rid of the Article 18 mantra," Squinzi said.
"It is one of the brakes (on investments), perhaps a more media than substantive one".
Industrialists concur on the need for reform and on the need to increase employee protections, Squindi added.
"Entrepreneurs have no interest in sacking their employees, especially those who do their job and are good at it," Squinzi said.
