(ANSA) - Rome, December 30 - Cities across Italy are ready
to ring in 2016 with New Year's concerts and events organized in
central squares from north to south.
Following is a rundown of planned celebrations:
Milan - In Piazza Duomo, singer-songwriter and rapper
Caparezza will perform in a free concert from 11 p.m. to 12:20,
with songs from his 2014 album and "Museica" live tour.
The concert will be broadcast live on RAI Radio2.
Venice - The city known for romance offers a New Year's Eve
party called "Love 2016" in Piazza San Marco, with a kiss in
unison at the stroke of midnight.
Rapper Fedez will perform in a concert at Pala Expo Venice
di Marghera.
Turin - The theme for the 2016 New Year's party is "When
the Band Passed" and will feature various musical bands and
their instruments in Piazza San Carlo, with Vincio Capossella
and his Banda della Posta headlining the evening.
Bologna - In Piazza Maggiore, the co-founder and guitarist
of British indie rock band The Libertines, Carl Barat, will play
a live set from the balcony of the Palazzo del Podestà.
Florence - For the first time in Piazza Pitti, the city's
huge New Year's concert this year will feature Alessandro
Mannarino, Irene Grandi and the band Street Clerks.
Rome - At the Circus Maximus, Negramaro and Edoardo Bennato
will play the traditional live New Year's concert, with the
midnight countdown and toast by Gioia Marzocchi.
Naples - In Piazza del Plebiscito, the city will host a
live concert with Max Gazzè, Enzo Avitabile & Bottari, Nello
Daniele, Daby Tourè, Rino Zurzolo and Tony Esposito, including a
tribute to native Pino Daniele who died last January.
Bari - Gigi D'Alessio will ring in the New Year in Piazza
della Prefettura in a concert to be broadcast live on national
radio and TV.
Bari native and winner of TV talent show X Factor GioSada
will also take the stage to play his winning tune "Il Rimpianto
di Te", dedicated to his birth city.
Matera - European Capital of Culture for 2019, and Capital
of Italian New Year's 2016, this year Matera will host the
traditional RAI 1 New Year's countdown show in Piazza Vittorio
Veneto, where thousands of locals and tourists are expected to
join in the collective toast at midnight.
Palermo - The city will host its traditional New Year's
concert in Piazza Castelnuovo with Mario Venuti, the Sicilian
band Tinturia, Antonella Ruggiero, and Tony Colombo.
