Italy's first 'cruelty-free wine' coming soon

(ANSA) - Florence, March 25 - A wine producer in Tuscany has created the first certified vegan Chianti, sources said Wednesday.
    The wine produced by Fattoria Casabianca near the city of Siena is certified safe for vegans because "the grape is traced every step of the way, from our organically farmed vineyards to the bottle," said Casabianca Manager Alberto Cenni.
    This means animal products and derivatives have been eliminated from the field to the cellar all the way to the label glue and packing tape, explained Casabianca agronomist Giacomo Sensi, a vegetarian.
    Fattoria Casabianca produces 400,000 bottles a year of red, white, and rosé Chianti Colli Senesi on 654 hectares lying between the Ombrone and Merse rivers. Its entire line beginning with the 2014 harvest will be cruelty-free. Prices will stay the same, the winemakers said.
