(ANSA) - Rome, October 1 - Slow Food Italy president Gaetano
Pascale on Wednesday welcomed the European Commission decision
to open infraction proceedings against Great Britain's so-called
"traffic light" food-labelling scheme.
The system is designed to help consumers make healthy
choices, by labelling food items red, amber or green according
to their fat, salt and sugar contents.
However, according to Pascale, the system not only damages
local produce but could lead to the paradox of "having a red
label for extra-virgin olive oil and a green one for diet Coke".
