Tax man arrested for trying to blackmail Loro Piana

Wanted 300,000 euros to hush up tax dispute

(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 7 - A tax official was arrested in Vercelli Tuesday on suspicion of trying to blackmail a member of the Loro Piana clothing dynasty over a tax dispute with the inland revenue office, sources said.
    Police were acting on a complaint from the widow of late businessman Sergio Loro Piana, who had received an anonymous demand for 300,000 euros so as not to reveal confidential details of the dispute.
    The unnamed official has been charged with illegal access to information systems and attempted extortion of the Loro Piana family.
    Loro Piana, basd at Quraano near Vercelli in Piedmont, is an Italian fabrics and clothing company specialising in high-end, luxury cashmere and wool products. (ANSA).
